James originally joined CBRE in 1987 in Hong Kong\, and then established the company's Beijing office in the People's Republic of China\, where he was responsible for leasing the China World Trade Centre. He joined the Bangkok office in 1990 and was also a founding  partner of CBRE in Vietnam and Cambodia . He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Valuation and Estate Management from Bristol Polytechnic\, UK\, 1985.
